Knyte Bytes take part in FIRST competition

BEDFORD- You win some, you lose some. But for the Parkside Knyte Bytes, Saturday's loss at the FIRST Tech Challenge competition was still a moment to celebrate.

The team, led by district speech language specialist Stacey Edgar, was awarded the Judge's Award for their dedication and hard work.

It's an accomplishment that felt impossible even a month ago. The rookie team managed to build and program the bot in just 18 days. During the competition, it operated autonomously in four of the five matches it was in, and managed to shoot seven out of nine wiffle ball "artifacts" into a goal.

Though the Knyte Bytes didn't make the playoffs, but "the team had very good success in the sheer fact that we were even there competing," said Edgar, adding that the students worked together, taking turns as driver, operator and human player in the event. "They worked so hard to get where they are."

The Knyte Bytes will have a couple of weeks off, then be back in action at their next competition in mid-January.

Congratulations, Parkside!
