The Manchester School District’s primary responsibility is the safety of our students. Therefore, when any type of threat regarding our school district is made, we evaluate the circumstances and take the appropriate measures.

As students were arriving at the Middle School at Parkside this morning a parent reported seeing an adult with a weapon arguing with a child on a street near the school. Both Parkside and Gossler were put into a brief reverse evacuation and secure campus, meaning that children arriving at school were escorted inside and brought inside to ensure their safety. Police responded, detained the individual and are continuing to investigate.

Upon detainment of the individual, the secure campus was lifted and the school day resumed on a normal schedule at both schools.

Dear Parents, Guardians and Members of the Parkside Community,

All of us at Parkside hope your Thanksgiving Holiday was restful and you found much to be thankful for. As we begin the holiday season, we know there are children here at Parkside in need. The simple things such as food, shelter and clothing are things they are truly thankful for. This year we are sponsoring The Parkside Giving Tree. Parkside Staff and Families can select an ornament tag from our Giving Tree located in the main office. Each ornament includes the gender, age, clothing and shoe sizes, and gift wish of a student in need of holiday help.

Please note that applications have been given to families that fall within one of the following criteria:

  • Homeless/Displaced;
  • Severe Economic Difficulties;
  • Residing within a foster home

While applications have been provided to all families that meet the above referenced criteria, participation is not mandatory. As such, some families have opted out of the program as they feel their situation has stabilized to the point where they no longer require outside assistance.

If you wish to help make the holiday season a positive one for a child in need, stop by and take a look at the needs demonstrated on the ornaments (Many have already been claimed). Or you can visit our website beginning December 4th to see a comprehensive list of needs. Should you have any questions or concerns, please free to contact me.

Thank you, once again, for helping our Parkside Families.

Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff and Members of the Parkside Community.

The PTG will meet at Parkside this Wednesday evening beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Library at Parkside.

Here's the Scoop

Box Tops for Education

A big thank you to all that submitted Box Tops for this past submission. You helped raise

$150.10 for Parkside. That brings our total for the year so far to $291.90 toward our goal of

$1,000.00 and an Ice Cream Party! ! Congratulations to the student who won the Chunky's movie passes and free popcorn. We hope you enjoy the movie.

With the holiday season fast approaching and all the cooking that comes with it, make sure you keep clipping and saving Box Tops for the next submission in February. We will be

announcing the next drawing for that submission soon!

Happy Clipping,

Dear Parents, Guardians and Members of the Parkside Community,

Students were given their first progress report of the year to bring home to you on Friday. Please take the time to review this with your child and congratulate him or her for the successes and reinforce your expectations where the current grade may fall short. Each team has required a parent signature be returned. There is either a team form or an extra copy of the progress report for your signature. Students are required to return a parent signature. First Quarter Report Cards will go home on November 16.

If a student is failing two or more classes on this progress report, Academic Support has been assigned. This is a required additional class after school Monday through Thursday lasting until 3:15 p.m. If this is the case you will be notified in a separate message with the details and your child has been provided a letter with the progress report explaining the situation.

The improvement and maintenance of reading abd math skills is a primary focus here at Parkside. Beginning next week students will be expected to complete 100 minutes per week in Reading Plus or IReady (for reading improvement) and 100 minutes of IReady or Moby Max online instruction (for math). 108 minutes of regular class time are provided for all students for each area each week. Other opportunities are often available such as Enrichment time or Academic Support, providing sufficient time for students to meet this weekly expectation. The programs can also be accessed from home to allow additional time and also family review of student progress. Your child can show you their results when they are logged in. Student results and growth are monitored weekly here at Parkside and will be shared with the community on a regular basis.

Parkside has begun the implementation of our Project Based Learning activities. This week the 8th grade has begun the development of their animal classification and taxonomy project. One of the goals is to define characteristics of living things as well as where humans fit into the natural world. Ask your 8th grader about this project.

Our next PTG meeting is Wednesday, October 17th at 6:30 p.m. in the Parkside Library.
