Dear Parents, Guardians and Members of the Parkside Community,
We hope this email finds you well and ready to begin another school year with great promise and challenge. We hope this email finds you at all as we are not sure how many emails we have are accurate or checked by parents after being provided to us. (If you did not receive this via email, please contact the school to update your email contact information.)
As we prepare to begin the school year we must remember several important truths.
Education is the most important thing in your child’s life after health and well-being.
Your child is facing a future world in which jobs and success will go to those who are educated and able to function successfully in a world that is ever changing. Many of the jobs your children will undertake have not been invented yet. It does not matter what your child’s goals in life are. Education and training after high school will be mandatory. Whether that is college, a skilled trades education, or a training program provided by a future employer, the foundation laid now will determine your child’s success and opportunities.
School work must be challenging. If it is not your child is not learning new things or improving what he/she already knows.
Regular effort is the key to success. Some things come easy, some do not.
Parkside is undertaking several important programs this year designed to help your child practice many of the skills needed for success as well as help you become better connected to his/her education.
During the first two weeks of school you should receive a phone call from one of your child’s teachers. The purpose of the call is to introduce the school year, welcome you to or back to Parkside and to give you a contact point if you have any questions.
A parent meeting is being held during the second week of school. Attendance at this meeting is mandatory for at least one parent or guardian of each student. There are three different meeting times during which the meeting will be repeated. You need only attend one. These days/times are: Tuesday 9/13/16 at 9:00 a.m.; Thursday 9/15 at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday 9/17/16 at 9:00 a.m. I will be hosting these meetings and look forward to meeting each of you.
Your child will soon begin to talk to you about our Fall “Back to School Night.” It will be held in a different fashion this year. Your child is required to attend. We will be holding student led conferences during which your child will be sharing with you individually in greater detail the information you would hear in the traditional very short classroom rotations. More information to come soon. Please reserve the evening of 9/29/16 for a parent/guardian to attend Fall Student Led Conferences.
Look for flyers and additional emails to come home about these events. As always, we look forward to working with your child and you this year to gain even greater heights and brighter futures.
With Parkside Pride
